মনুষ্য-কীর্তিতে দায় ও সম্পদের সাম্যতা

প্রায়ই কোন না কোন ব্যক্তি সম্পর্কে সমবেদনাভরা গলায় শোনা যায়, “আহারে, ভদ্রলোক পরিবার বা ভাই-বোনের প্রতি দায়-দায়িত্ব পালন করতে করতেই বয়ে গেলেন – নিজের বলতে বেচারীর কিছু হল না!”; “হায়রে, ভদ্রলোকটি দেশ আর দশের কথা ভাবতে আর পরোপকার করতে করতে শেষ হয়ে গেলেন – নিজের বলে তো তাঁর কিছু আর জুটল না!” বা অনুরূপ একটু ভিন্ন কিছু মন্তব্য। কিন্তু সত্যই কি ভদ্রলোক, ভদ্রমহিলা বা কোন সংগঠন বা সংস্থা এইরূপ ক্রিয়া-কর্মের জন্য সর্বহারা তথা সহায়হীন হয়ে যায় – না এ অবস্থাটি সম্পর্কে সংবেদনশীল ব্যক্তিবর্গের নিতান্তই তাৎক্ষণিক প্রতিক্রিয়া, নিছকই বোঝার ভুল তথা প্রকৃত অবস্থা সম্পর্কে ভ্রান্ত ধারণা মাত্র? সাংখ্য মানের সহায়তায় এই প্রশ্নটির তাহলে উত্তর খোঁজার জন্য পরবর্তী অনুচ্ছেদে বর্ণিত একটি সহজ উদাহরণের অবতারণা করা যাক।

দেখা যাচ্ছে যে, প্রত্যেকটি পৃথক লেনদেন দুইটি খাতকে প্রভাবিত করেছে – (১) হিসাব-রক্ষণে অভ্যস্ত ব্যক্তির কাছে এটি স্পষ্ট, (২) বিজ্ঞানের ছাত্ররা জানেন এটি নিউটনের তৃতীয় গতিসুত্রের (অর্থাৎ, ‘প্রত্যেকটি ক্রিয়ারই সমান ও বিপরীত প্রতিক্রিয়া আছে’ এবং বলাই বাহুল্য প্রত্যেকটি লেনদেনই এক একটি ক্রিয়া) ফল আর (৩) কবি-সাহিত্যিক সহ অন্যান্যদের জানাই এটি ‘একই মুদ্রার এপিঠ-ওপিঠ’, ‘যেমন কর্ম তেমন ফল’, ‘ইঁট মারলেই পাটকেলটি খেতে হবে’, ‘যেমন কুকুর তেমন মুগুর’ প্রভৃতি বা অনুরূপ প্রবাদেরই বা্স্তব পরিণাম মনে করা যেতে পারে, তাছাড়া লেন-দেন শব্দের মর্মার্থ থেকেও এটি অনেকখানাই স্পষ্ট – অন্য ভাবে এমনও তো ভাবা যায়, ’আমার ছেলের বিয়েতে বৌমা এসে আমার ঘর ভরল, কিন্তু এই একটি ঘটনার জন্যই তো অন্য একজনের ঘর খালি হল!’ সুতরাং, দায় ও সম্পদের ঐ তালিকাটিতে দায় ও সম্পদের মোটফল কালে বৃদ্ধি পেলেও অন্তিমেও দায় ও সম্পদ নিঁখুতভাবেই সমান। এখন আলোচনার অপেক্ষা রাখে যে সামাজিক জীবনে বিষয়টিকে কিরূপে উপস্থাপন করা যায়। অর্থাৎ, এটি সর্বক্ষেত্রে সত্য যে, দায় ও সম্পত্তি সর্বদাই সমান (অনেকটা পদার্থ ও শক্তির ‘নিত্যতা সূত্র’-এর মতই) তবে সাধারণ বা জটিল সামাজিক জীবনে টাকার অঙ্কে (প্রধানতঃ বিনিময়-অক্ষমতা জনিত কারণেই) তথা পরিমাণগত দিক দিয়ে সব কিছুকে অনেক ক্ষেত্রে বা অনেক সময়ে মাপা যায় না, অন্যদিকে যদিও কিছু কিছু বিষয়বস্তুকে পরিমাণগতভাবে মাপা যায়ও তবু তাদের সবার জন্য প্রায়শঃই সর্বজন স্বীকৃত সাধারণ একক (Common Measurement Unit) বা শুরু-বিন্দু (Point of Origin) নির্ধারণ করা নিতান্তই কঠিন – তাহলে সর্বক্ষেত্রে ঐ মোট দায় ও সম্পত্তির সমান হওয়ার ঘটনাটি কিরূপে ব্যাখ্যা করা যায়? এই প্রবন্ধটিতে সেটিই মূল আলোচ্য বিষয়।
কালের বিচারে রক্ত-মাংসে গড়া এ শরীরটি তো নিতান্তই স্বল্প স্থায়ী, অমরত্ব তো অন্যের বা ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের মনে স্থান করে নিতে পারলেই সম্ভব –

– সময়-দূরত্বের সেই আদিম বিতর্কের গণ্ডী যিনি যতটাই অতিক্রম করতে পারবেন তিনি তো ততটাই সম্পদশালী, নন কি? অধিকন্তু, এই যে অন্যের মন দখল করে বেঁচে থাকা তাও তো এক মুল্যবান সম্পদ, আর এ সম্পদের মালিক তো আজ অশরীরি হলেও তিনি যিনি অপার কষ্ট সহ্য করে কাছের বা দূরের, বর্তমানের বা আগামি দিনের, কতিপয় বা বহুজন মানুষ তথা জীবের সাচ্ছন্দের অনুকুলে ত্যাগ স্বীকার তথা দায়-দায়িত্ব পালন করে গেছেন! সামাজিক ও আধ্যাত্মিক দায় পালন করেই তো আজও ব্যাসদেব, ব্রহ্মগুপ্ত, সক্রেটিস, প্লেটো, চরক, ক্ষণা, নিউটন, এডওয়ার্ড জেনার, স্যার রোণাল্ড রস, আইনষ্টাইন, মার্ক্স, ফ্লোরেন্স নাইটিংগেল, রামমোহন, বিবেকানন্দ, বিদ্যাসাগর, মাদার টেরেসা প্রমুখ মহামনিষি বা মহামানবীরা এইরূপেই সম্পদশালী হয়েছেন ও রয়েছেন! অন্যভাবে বলা যায় –
यथा चतुर्भिः कनकं परीक्ष्यते निघर्षणच्छेदनतापताडनैः। तथा चतुर्भिः पुरुषः परीक्ष्यते त्यागेन शीलेन गुणेन कर्मणा॥
কালের বিচারের কথাই যখন উঠল তখন আরও একটি পরিমাণগত উপমা তথা উদাহরণ দেওয়াও সময়োপযোগী ও বেশই প্রাসঙ্গিক মনে করি। দৈর্ঘ্য, প্রস্থ ও উচ্চতা ছাড়াও চতুর্থ মাত্রা (4th Dimension) হিসাবে কাল তথা সময়কে এবং বর্তমান বা ভবিষ্যৎ জনকল্যাণকে আধ্যাত্মিক দায় মেনে নিলে বলতে হয়, সম্পদ হিসাবে কোন বার্ষিকীর বর্তমান মূল্য (Present Value of an Annuity, উদাহরণ স্বরূপ, পেনসন ভাঙ্গিয়ে থোক টাকা) যে সম্পদ তা বেশী আর্থিক পরিমাণের হয় যদি বার্ষিকীটির ব্যাপ্তিকাল দীর্ঘ হয় – সুতরাং, সুদীর্ঘকাল যাবৎ নিরবিচ্ছিন্নভাবে মানুষের মনে ভাল জায়গা করে নেওয়া ব্যক্তিটি কি এক বিশাল সম্পদের অধিকারি বা অধিকারিণী নন? আরও, বার্ষিকীর বর্তমান মূল্য সুদের হার বৃদ্ধির সঙ্গে বাড়ে – সুতরাং, ঐ হার যদি ঋণাত্মক দাঁড়ায় (অর্থাৎ, আমাদের উপমেয় যদি সুদীর্ঘকাল যাবৎ দুর্নামের প্রাপক হন) তাহলে এই পরিমাণটি কোথায় গিয়ে দাঁড়াবে তাও নিশ্চয়ই সহজেই অনুমেয়! অর্থাৎ, যিনি অপরকে বঞ্চিত বা শোষণ করে কিংবা নিজের সামাজিক দায়িত্ব অবজ্ঞা করে সম্পদ বৃদ্ধি করেছেন তাঁর তো পরবর্তীকালে তথা পার্থিব জীবনোত্তরকালে দায় বৃদ্ধি ঘটবেই (যার কুফল জীবিত বংশধর, আত্মীয় বা প্রতিবেশীকেও প্রায়শঃই ভোগ করতে হয়) বা পূর্বে ঐরূপ সম্পদ-সংগ্রহ বা দায়-গ্রহণ অতি তুচ্ছ হলে পরবর্তীকালে তিনি তো বিস্মৃতির অতল গর্ভে স্বাভাবিক নিয়মেই অচিরেই লাউ, কুমড়ো বা শূকর, বানরের মতই বিলিন হয়ে যাবেন।! ক্ষুদ্র বা বৃহৎ কারবারী সংস্থা ও অন্য সেবামূলক সামাজিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের ক্ষেত্রেও কমবেশি এই প্রকৃয়াই তো সাধারণভাবে লক্ষনীয়। সুতরাং, বাঞ্ছনীয় যে, দায়-দায়িত্ব অতিত ও বর্তমানে পালনীয় কর্তব্য এবং তবেই বর্তমান এবং ভবিষ্যতে (এমনকি শরীরের অবর্তমানেও) সম্পদের অধিকার তো স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে জন্মানোই প্রত্যাশিত।
